My Vulvodynia Journey and Body Stress Release

Just under two years ago, out of the blue I began to suffer greatly with vulva pain and discomfort. Unable to wear trousers (and sometimes even underwear), I struggled during everyday life with discomfort, which became worse with stress and even gentle exercise, such as walking.  I was desperate to get to the root of the problem and get my life back. After a year of going back and forwards to various doctors and specialists, I was finally diagnosed as having vulvodynia.

Whilst I felt relief at being diagnosed, the solutions and medications offered by the doctors had little impact.  Sometimes medications temporarily gave relief, but pain always returned after a short period. Finally, one specialist suggested there may be a link between the way stress is retained in the body and the nerves which run through the pelvis. She put me in touch with Gwen who she said had been very helpful to a number of women she had seen with the same symptoms.

I knew nothing about Body Stress Release when I met Gwen and to be honest as an NHS employee, I was the biggest sceptic about anything considered ‘alternative’.  However, I was so desperate to get back into trousers I was willing to give anything a try.

From my first session with Gwen I knew I had made the right decision.  Gwen explained how Body Stress Release works and the impact it was having on me physically. After the first session, I was amazed at how different and relaxed I felt immediately after my first session.  The following week, my vulvodynia was significantly better and less noticeable. Over the coming weeks, as I had more sessions, the discomfort was reduced and now after about 6 months, I am finally able to wear skinny jeans most days and barely notice my irritation.

There have been other unexpected benefits of attending Body Stress Release.  My lower back, which used to ache constantly (probably related to the vulvodynia )  now rarely hurts.  I have barely any period pains or neck aches. In fact, I generally feel better in myself, far more relaxed and much happier.  I have been really surprised by the impact it has had.

Whilst Body Stress Release has not completely ‘cured’ my vulvodynia, it has reduced the discomfort to a level that I am able to live a happy and pain free life. By being patient ( the effects of Body Stress Release are not instant) and combining it with some general lifestyle changes, such as eating well and getting gentle exercise, I have got my life back. I am happy now to see Gwen on a regular basis to maintain the improvement and so very grateful that I chose to take a leap of faith in something new.
